The Chair of Neurology and Neurosurgery was created in 1935 immediately after the opening of Vitebsk State Medical University and is currently located in Vitebsk Regional Clinical Hospital. The chair provides training for 4-6 years students of General Medicine and Stomatological Faculties in neurology and neurosurgery, as well as physiotherapy, and has been teaching basic courses in English for more than twenty years. There are 10 experienced teachers at the chair who are highly qualified in the field of neurology, neurosurgery and physiotherapy, and have undergone internships in leading university clinics in the Russian Federation, Great Britain, Germany, Austria, the Czech Republic, and Israel. The staff of the chair are active members of Belarusian Society of Neurologists, European Academy of Neurology (EAN), other professional associations and have repeatedly participated in international congresses, educational seminars, scientific and practical conferences, including as invited lecturers, as well as with presentations of the results of their own scientific research. The scope of scientific and practical interests of the chair's staff includes problems of cerebrovascular disorders, nervous system trauma, infections in neurosurgery, headaches and other common pain syndromes, neurorehabilitation, disorders of autonomic regulation, etc. Teachers of the chair are members of expert groups of international associations on neurotrauma and problems of cerebrovascular disorders, authors of educational publications, monographs and manuals on neurology and physiotherapy, scientific articles and chapters in international publications, co-authors of training programs and industry standards. The chair's specialists provide medical and advisory assistance at Vitebsk Regional Clinical Hospital, as well as other medical institutions in Vitebsk and Vitebsk region. The chair staff participates in organizing scientific and practical conferences and seminars on neurology and neurosurgery, advanced training of specialists, cooperates with foreign scientific and practical centers, and participates in the implementation of international clinical research projects.
