On the basis of the chemical-pharmaceutical laboratory of the Educational Establishment "Vitebsk State Order of Peoples’ Friendship Medical University", aided by Carl Zeiss Optec Vertriebs GmbH company’s engineers from Minsk and Moscow, the newest laser microdissection device and ejection of the PALM system based on the Axio Observer 7 inverted microscope was installed, commissioned and put into operation. In the Republic of Belarus, a similar device is used only in the molecular-genetic laboratory of carcinogenesis of the State Institution "Republican Scientific and Practical Center of Oncology and Medical Radiology named after V.I. N.N. Alexandrov ".
The unique laser technology enables microsurgical processing and extraction of microscopic samples with absolute precision and without the risk of contamination due to laser ejection and transfer of the desired objects to the microcontainer for further analysis. The PALM system is designed to collect precisely defined cells (living and fixed), cell areas for use in pathological anatomy, oncology, forensics, proteomics, cytogenetics, genetic engineering, botany and other fields of medical, biological and pharmaceutical researches.
The successful development of the new laser microdissection technology of the PALM system in combination with the NextSeq 550 high-efficient sequencing system appears to be a promising direction in the field of molecular-genetic research and cell technologies.
Now students and staff of the university have the opportunity to use unique devices to reveal their potential and take a step towards new discoveries.
