On December 16, 2020 a delegation from the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka visited Vitebsk State Medical University. It comprised of the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka to the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus His Excellency Professor M.D. Lamawansa, Deputy Ambassador, Minister Plenipotentiary, Adviser to the Embassy, Mr. Mohamed Anas, wife of the Ambassador Mrs. Tamaramala Kannangara and personal assistant/interpreter of the Ambassador Mrs. Olesya Romanova.
Vice-Rector for International Affairs and Work with Foreign Citizens M.M. Savchuk met with the members of the delegation.
During the visit to the university, guests got acquainted with the development plan of Vitebsk State Medical University, visited the departments of clinical microbiology, topographic anatomy and operative surgery, as well as the anatomical museum and electronic library.
The Ambassador of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka to the Republic of Belarus, Professor M.D. Lamavansa, wrote a review in the book of Honored Guests.
Issues related to practical training of students, organization of educational process, recognition of the university by the Medical Council of Sri Lanka, adoption of necessary preventive measures in conditions of spread of Covid-2019 infection among Sri Lankan citizens and their treatment, as well as plans and strategies of further cooperation between the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka and the Republic of Belarus in the field of science, medicine and education were discussed at the meeting with the administration of VSMU.
The Ambassador met with students of the Sri Lankan community, during which issues of teaching foreign citizens at VSMU and organizing the life of Lankan students were raised.
The visit of the embassy delegation to VSMU became another step contributing to the popularization of Belarusian medical education in Sri Lanka.
