The VSMU team took part in the VII International Student Olympiad in Surgery, which was held on December 4-6, 2024, within the walls of the Novosibirsk State Medical University of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation. Teams from the Khanty-Mansiysk State Medical Academy, Lugansk State Medical University, Samara Medical University "Reaviz", Osh State University (Osh, Kyrgyzstan), Kyrgyz State Medical Academy (Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan) also took part in the Olympiad.

The Vitebsk State Order of Friendship of Peoples Medical University was represented by the following students of the medical faculty: the 4th year - Roman Filippenko, Pavel Aleksandrov, the 5th year - Nina Avseykova, Konstantin Timoshenko, the 6th year - Vitaly Tolkachev, Stanislav Kulich, the team leader – the Head of the Department of Operative Surgery and Topographic Anatomy, PhD, associate professor Anna Mikhailovna Kupchenko. As a result, the VSMU students received 1st degree diplomas in the competitions "Tendon Suture", "Microsurgery", "Ileotransverse Anastomosis", "Clinical Anatomy on the Interactive Complex "Pirogov", 2nd degree diplomas in the competitions "Thoracic Surgery", "Cardiovascular Surgery", "Vascular Suture", 3rd degree diplomas in the competitions "Knitting of Surgical Knots", "Urology", "Gastric Resection by Bilroth 1", "Intestinal Anastomosis on an Experimental Animal". Based on the results of all competitions, the VSMU team took 3rd place in the overall team standings.
