Sinhala and Tamil New Year-2023

The Sinhala and Tamil new year 2023 organised by the Srilankan Medical Students Union, VSMU was held on 15th and 16th of April 2023. Students from the Srilankan community were divided into 4 teams and took part in this event with much enthusiasm and joy.

The outdoor portion of the celebrations were held in the VSU by Masherov sports grounds. Students took part in games like slow cycle race, 3 legged race, sack race, lime and spoon, tic tac toe and many more. Then there were sports events like basketball, relay and marathon between students from different teams. Students took part in the sports very competitively and with good sportsmanship.

The indoor part of the function was held in the VSMU small sporthall. It was a colourful one with teams showcasing their decorations and various talents of their team members. Cultural Dean Maria Alexeevna, Dr.Denesh Nithiyanandadeva, President of the SLMSU Haznath and students from Srilankan and other nationalities were present in this occasion. Students based on their performance and showcasing of their talents were awarded Aurudu Kumara and Aurudu Kumari, both of which were won by the Green team. Based on the teams performance in outdoor and indoor events Blue team got 1st place, Green and Yellow team got 2nd and 3rd runners up respectively.

The event was a joyfilled one with everyone taking part and spreading the joy of new year.
