In 2021, a pediatric faculty was opened at the educational establishment “Vitebsk State Order of Peoples’ Friendship Medical University”. Doctor of Medical Sciences Elena Gennadievna Asiryan, who has been vice-rector for scientific work at VSMU since April 2022, has been appointed dean of the faculty. Candidate of Medical Sciences, Associate Professor Tatyana Mikhailovna Ryabova was appointed dean of the pediatric faculty. On July 16, 2021, the Department of Pediatrics No. 1 was opened on the basis of the pediatric faculty. Associate Professor Elena Gennadievna Kosenkova was appointed head of the department. The staff of the Department of Pediatrics No. 1 includes: Associate Professor, Ph.D. Kosenkova E.G. (head of department), vice-rector for scientific work, doctor of medical sciences. Asiryan E.G., Associate Professor, Ph.D. Pchelnikov Yu.V., Associate Professor, Ph.D. Semenova O.V., Associate Professor, Ph.D. Minina E.S., assistant Grishchenko E.A., assistant Belskaya I.P., laboratory assistant 1st category Ostrovskaya N.G. Doctor of Medical Sciences Asiryan E.G. and associate professor Minina E.S. certified to teach department disciplines in English.

The staff of the department take an active position in practical healthcare, consult patients in Vitebsk, Vitebsk and Mogilev regions.

Currently, the department’s staff continues active pedagogical and scientific activities.

Disciplines taught at the department are: “First aid” (the 1st year of the pediatric faculty), educational practice. “Introductory course” (the 1st year of the pediatric faculty), “Medical care and manipulation techniques” (the 2nd year of the pediatric faculty), educational practice “Medical care” (the 2nd year of the pediatric faculty), “Propaedeutics of childhood diseases” (the 2nd and the 3rd year of the pediatric faculty), Industrial practice “Nursing with manipulative techniques” (the 3rd year of the pediatric faculty), “Pediatrics” (the 4th year of the medical faculty and the overseas students training faculty).

At the Department of Pediatrics No. 1 there is a laboratory of professional excellence “Pediatrics”. Within the laboratory, students study in more depth the disciplines taught at the department. Employees from other departments and practical healthcare are involved in the work of the laboratory. On the basis of the laboratory of professional skills there is a student scientific circle, whose members participate in republican and international subject Olympiads in pediatrics.
