The Department of Public Health and Health Service with the course of Advanced Training and Retraining of medical personnel was established in 1939. From 1990 and to date, the Department has been headed by Professor Vasily Semenovich Glushanko.
It is the graduating department of the Medical Faculty, the main task of which is to conduct the State Qualifying Examination in the VI year of the Faculty of Medicine.
Currently, the department provides teaching at 6 faculties of VSMU (medical, pharmaceutical, stomatological, pediatric, faculty of training for foreign citizens, faculty of advanced training and retraining) in more than 20 areas.

- "Professional communication in medicine".
- Elective discipline: "School of Management".
- Section "Fundamentals of health care management" (for clinical residents).
- Advanced training and retraining cycle for doctors-organizers of healthcare.
- Master's, postgraduate and doctoral studies are open as well.
Professor V.S. Glushanko created the scientific and pedagogical school "Organization, management and economics of health care". Under his guidance 10 dissertations were defended. Expert evaluations were made on 180 candidate and doctoral dissertations.
During medical practical training in the discipline “Public Health and Healthcare” each 5th year student performs individual tasks, conducts educational and research work, masters the methods of instilling skills and tests the means of medical and hygienic training, education and formation of a healthy lifestyle among the population.
In 2017, at the Department of Public Health and Health Care with the course of Advanced Training and Retraining of medical personnel the Cabinet of Health and Healthy Lifestyle was opened, as a center for improving work on the formation of a healthy lifestyle among students. The Cabinet coordinates and integrates the teaching of medical and hygienic education and training at the department.
